Reading Competition

In its drive to educate young children in towns and villages, the Beninese NGO "Ecole de Solidarité" is organizing a reading competition at the EPP (Public Primary School) Houngbagba to promote the importance of reading daily. Through this reading competition, the Beninese NGO "Ecole de Solidarité" wants to encourage the students of this school to develop a taste for reading. In 2011, our NGOs constructed the new buildings of the Public Primary School of Houngbagba in the Municipality of Tori (please see "completed projects").
To congratulate and encourage the dedicated schoolchildren, a German volunteer working at this school took charge of organizing this competition. Since the middle of May 2013, she has been helping the schoolchildren every day to read for pleasure. During the week of June 24, 2013, six (6) finalists per class chosen during the pre-selection will participate in the final, which will take place on July 11, 2013.
The three winners from each class will receive a complete kit of school supplies. However, all schoolchildren who participate in the competition will also receive notebooks and pens. Some students are also currently coloring the NGO's logo.

Today we concluded the reading competition with the final selection of the best students. Over the past few weeks, the children have practiced well thanks to our volunteer Carina. She showed determination, availability, and above all, love for the African children and students. It is true that, during the pre-selection phase as well as the final selection, there were some sad students because they sometimes encountered difficulties and the words did not come out or get deciphered as quickly as they would have liked. But once we distributed the participation prizes to everyone, the smiles returned to their faces. The grand prize winners were truly proud. We believe that reading has taken on a new importance in the minds of the students. The commitment of our volunteer Carina has brought about a great change. She dedicated a lot of her time to reading, which the children enjoyed very much. Both the children and we found a lot of pleasure in this activity.
